As posted by Dr Frankenstein, solar is a low density source of energy. The Shockley–Queisser limit means a single junction solar cell has a maximum theoretical efficiency of 33%. Current commercial cells are at 24%. Stacked cells can get up to theoretical efficiency of 68%.

You need the charging infrastructure.

Look up cross country solar car competitions, they were lightweight vehicles with bicycle tires and huge rafts of solar cells.
